449 Foods, a health food company started by two Purdue University students, has just launched their first product; House of Peace Coffee. The coffee is perfect for the ketogenic diet and is vegan as well. The coffee beans are sourced from Tanzania to help support the country’s economic growth.
What is 449 Foods?
449 Foods was founded by two Purdue University students, Christopher Jones and Venecia Wilson, with the mission to support economic growth of communities in Tanzania. Their Kickstarter campaign helped to fund their first product, House of Peace Coffee, which uses coffee beans sourced directly from Tanzania.
Chris and Venecia spent two weeks in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania teaching the people about pharmaceutical manufacturing and entrepreneurship. While there, the pair realized how good the coffee was. Upon drinking the coffee, they discovered that coffee had been a mainstay in the country’s economy. However, large coffee companies drove the demand of Tanzania’s coffee bean down, causing economic hardship on its people. Seeing this, Chris and Venecia thought: why not offer a premium coffee that is healthy and can help support Tanzanian’s coffee community? Enter House of Peace Coffee.
What’s in the product?
House of Peace is a plant-based, dairy-free, low-carb (contains no sugar) instant coffee. It is made with coconut milk, MCT oil, acacia fiber, and cacao butter. It only comes in one flavor, Coconut Latte. The unique taste of the House of Peace Coffee is due to the Tanzanian farms being high elevation and growing the coffee in volcanic soil. 449 Foods donates one dollar from each sale back to the communities of Tanzania to support education, health, and wellness initiatives of the community.
House of Peace may be a good alternative to Sunniva Super Coffee. Currently, 449 Foods’ only product is House of Peace Coffee, but they have plans to expand in other food categories.
