Though Hollywood might be famous for its indulgent lifestyle and trendy diets that change on a seemingly daily basis, no one can deny that the models, actors, and singers of Tinsel Town look fantastic both on-screen and off. But what's really the secret to Hollywood's fit and fabulous bodies? According to celebrity nutritionist Dr. Charles Passler, there's no inner-circle fad diet necessary to look and feel like a celebrity–just a diet that's low in carbohydrates and high in filling fats and protein, combined with regular time spent in the gym!

A lifestyle you can lean on

We hear about celebrities dropping weight for roles all the time–just this year, famous funny girl Melissa McCarthy shed over 75 pounds for her role in 2018's Life of the Party. However, according to Dr. Passler, most of his clientele (which includes supermodel and Victoria's Secret angel Adriana Lima and social media celebrity and runway veteran Bella Hadid) focus on maintaining a diet and lifestyle that they can follow all year-round.

“That’s the biggest challenge as most celebrities need to have a certain body composition,” he says. “My goal is to help them be able to maintain that actual body composition 365 days a year so that they’re not scrambling at the eleventh hour to be sure that they are going to fit into a dress or fit into a bikini.”1

High protein and low carbs–the secret to celebrity success

So, what's the secret to a fit and maintainable lifestyle? Packing your plate with plenty of protein and fats and low-carb veggies! Instead of following the stereotypical “starvation diet,” Dr. Passler's model clients are put on a diet of lean protein and filling fats, along with generous servings of non-starchy vegetables like spinach and kale. This allows his famous clientele to maintain a healthy physique by encouraging fat burn during workouts while also feeling full throughout a busy day of interviews, fittings, and auditions.

“The body loves using carbs for fuel. So the body’s going to soak up all of those carbs, and if then you don’t need any more fuel, the body’s going to just turn the extra calories from the fat and the protein into body fat. So by eliminating the carbohydrates, and consuming the protein and the fat, it not only keeps your calories down, but it keeps your energy stable.”

Stars without the carbs

Dr. Passler's clients are far from the only famous faces slimming down by cutting carbs. Celebrity socialite Kim Kardashian recently lost 75 pounds of baby weight through the ketogenic diet, a low-carb plan that encourages the consumption of high levels of fats and moderate levels of protein. From the runways of New York City to the famous Instagram sites of Los Angeles, everyone seems to be cutting carbohydrates to get rid of excess fat.
