Husband and wife team Laura and Matt Turk set out to live a healthier lifestyle. They switched to a low-carb diet and ended up losing 130 pounds together. At home, Laura excelled at coming up with custom low-carb recipes, but they still enjoyed cheat days every once in a while, going out to eat with their kids and enjoying conventional foods. After some time, Laura had a realization. On these cheat days, she always craved pizza. (Who wouldn’t?) This realization gave way to a business idea that would bring low-carb pizza to their hometown of Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Boombalatti's Pizza
Branded as “Waukesha’s premier low-carb solution,” their Boombalatti’s Pizza has mouth-watering pictures of their pizza on their website that would make anyone happy to eat it. In fact, making anyone happy is their goal. The couple aims to attract everyone, even people who do not follow a low-carb diet.
Despite their goal to please everyone, they acknowledge that their company is niche, and even admit to being a little apprehensive about opening such a niche business. Their ideal customer is someone who has been diagnosed with diabetes or have a gluten sensitivity. They know they’re going to attract consumers who want the wonderful taste of pizza without the guilt of the carbs. With the rising popularity of the ketogenic diet, they might have an easier time than expected. Happily, they’ve enjoyed a strong start, and are seeing increased following on their social media pages.
The Low-Carb Ingredients
Laura makes the pizza out of almond flour and the lasagna out of low-carb noodles. They even sell low-carb desserts such as chocolate-dipped strawberries and cheesecake. The pizza crusts are very thin, and are loaded with healthier, keto-friendly ingredients such as eggs, cheese, and meats. They clearly take pride in offering dietary solutions otherwise unavailable in their town.
Whenever they post a status update on Facebook with a picture of their food, there are comments such as “Where is this place?” and “Can’t wait to try!” It seems like the community of Waukesha is going to stand behind this company and support them. After all, what’s not to love about low-carb, guilt-free pizza and cheesecake?
