Global trends are picking up on the ketogenic movement, and Danone North America1 is one of the latest food manufacturers to jump on board. Their popular Light & Fit line of yogurts has a new family member, Two Good.2 This Greek yogurt has just 2 grams of sugar while packing 12 grams of protein and only 80 calories per serving.

Two Good's take on sugar

Danone used a specific straining process to create its newest yogurt creation. The technique is patent-pending and eliminates most of the milk's sugars before turning it into yogurt. The remaining 2 grams of natural sugars then combine with Danone's live and active cultures and a hint of Stevia for a fresh, sweet taste without the guilt of carbs. Lots of flavored Greek yogurts achieve the desired taste through several kinds of added sugars. Two Good doesn't skimp on quality or yumminess; its five varieties include Blueberry, Mixed Berry, Peach, Strawberry, and Vanilla.

A not-so-sweet reality

The current Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend no more than 12 teaspoons of added sugars daily for a 2,000-calorie diet. The average American is consuming substantially more than that, at 16 teaspoons per day.3 Soft drinks and dairy products like yogurt account for much of that added sugar, as do snack foods and desserts. The result is a sugar-addicted population, but people and brands are finally starting to notice how dangerous this is. Pepsi and Coca-Cola decided to make some changes to their product offerings, and the FDA plans to list added sugars on nutrition information labels.

It's a refreshing step forward to see the changes that these companies are making. It's true that modern life pulls people in all directions, and eating on the go is often a reality. Fortunately, convenience products are finally inching towards healthier alternatives. Two Good is one example of a snack that is mobile, affordable, and healthy.

Keto and sugar

Part of the keto diet's appeal is that it forces individuals to think twice about purchasing packaged foods, most of which lack nutritional value anyway. The diet calls for a drastic reduction in carbohydrates, which the body would typically turn into sugar. This forces the body to go into ketosis, burning fat for energy rather than glucose. Many dieters slim down and improve their energy levels, often without counting calories.4

In years past, it was difficult for these dieters to find convenience foods that matched their lifestyle, but that's changing. Two Good joins a line-up of keto-centric items such as drinks, snacks, and even brownie mixes. Not only is Two Good going to be great for people going keto, but it's a welcome addition for all consumers. It has the Danone taste that folks have come to love, but now with even more health benefits than before.
