Keto Asian Chicken Stir Fry
It is very hard to find take out that is healthy, keto-friendly and also delicious. In fact, this can be nearly impossible! So what should you do when you want a great, take-out style meal? Make this chicken asparagus stir fry! It is full of Asian-inspired flavors that will satisfy your need for that Chinese food take-out taste yet it is much healthier and low carb. In addition, it is a perfect springtime meal, using fresh asparagus as one of the main ingredients in the dish. No need to order take out when you have this tasty chicken dish to enjoy instead.
So what kind of ingredients go into a typical Asian take-out dish? The first that you are likely to always find is soy sauce, the salty, pungent flavor that soy sauce adds to a recipe is almost unmatchable. The flavor is basically synonymous with take-out food. We always recommend that you choose a low sodium soy sauce which will taste exactly the same but have much less salt added in, making it a little bit of a healthier option. You can also consider using the same quantity of coconut aminos rather than soy sauce which has the same amount of carbs but much less sodium.
Garlic and ginger are the two other strong flavors in our recipe that are traditional in Chinese food, take out style dishes. We use fresh chopped garlic and also fresh grated ginger to make the flavors in this meal really stand out. Not only do these two ingredients add tons of taste, they also are quite healthy (and totally okay on a keto diet as well!). Garlic is low in calories, high in vitamin C, B6 and manganese. It has also been shown to help combat the common cold and reduce blood pressure. Ginger has been shown to help treat nausea, reduce muscle soreness and also has anti inflammatory effects.
Our favorite ingredient in this recipe is definitely the fresh asparagus. Asparagus is good to eat on a keto diet in moderation. It does have a few carbs but is moderately low and, a little asparagus goes a long way! The spears can be chopped and stir fried into this dish to add a fresh crunch. Asparagus is best when the spears are medium sized and snap easily when bent in half. Choose spears that are not too fat as those will be a little more woody in taste and texture.
While this chicken and asparagus stir fry is fairly simple to make, it has tons of flavor and interest, making it a perfect option over traditional take-out. We love this recipe in the spring when asparagus is fresh but you can definitely make it any time you just need a little bit of that crave-worthy take-out food taste!
