Low Carb, Super Easy Whipped Cream

In my opinion, whipped cream is a necessary ingredient. It is perfect as a garnish for desserts, it is imperative for any bowl of ice cream and it is even delicious just to eat on its own. So having a great keto whipped cream recipe is almost like a requirement of the diet. Good thing we have a great recipe for you right here! Best part? It's super fast and easy to make- you only need four ingredients!

Our keto whipped cream recipe uses heavy cream as the primary ingredient. You may see lots of low carb whipped cream recipes that have you use the fatty top of coconut milk instead of heavy cream. However, heavy cream actually has fewer carbs than coconut milk and about just as much fat. Heavy cream also whips much better than coconut milk and the whipped cream will hold its shape for longer. Seems like heavy cream is the natural choice!

The key to keto whipped cream is all in the sweetener. You need a sweetener that will absorb well into the cold cream and not have a gritty texture. That is why our recipe uses powdered erythritol. The powdered texture blends into the heavy cream with just one stir, giving you a smooth and perfectly sweet whipped cream. You can add a little more powdered erythritol if you want your whipped cream to be a little sweeter or you can cut back on the sweetness by adding a little less. This recipe is pretty flexible!

Speaking of flexible, there are also ways you can alter this recipe to give you customized, delicious whipped cream in a whole array of flavors. The trick? The extract. We use simple vanilla extract on this keto whipped cream recipe which gives a lovely, classic taste. However, if you want to switch it up a little, you can substitute the vanilla extract with a different flavor extract of your choice.

Most extracts have no carbs at all so you can freely use any flavor you’d like. Did you know how many kinds of extract flavors are out there? You can find everything from strawberry extract to chocolate extract, birthday cake flavor to cheesecake extract. Using a cool flavor can make your whipped cream into a complete dessert rather than just a garnish! It is such an easy way to take your low carb desserts to the next level.

We always recommend making whipped cream immediately before you are ready to use it. The longer whipped cream sits, the more air escapes the whipped cream and makes it get softer. Whipped cream that sits for more than a day turns back into heavy cream and will need to be re-whipped. So make this recipe right before you are ready to use it for the best results!

While this recipe may seem simple, we have made many versions of keto whipped cream in order to perfect it! So be sure to measure correctly, whip that cream to stiff peaks, and enjoy it right away! And of course, let us know how much you love this recipe in the comments below! Enjoy.

Instructions
  1. Place the heavy cream in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment. Whip until the cream begins to thicken (about 2-3 minutes on high speed).
  2. Add the powdered erythritol, vanilla and salt to the bowl and then turn the mixer on high speed and whip until stiff peaks form. This means when you lift the whisk out of the cream, it should hold its shape and look more like a solid than a liquid
  3. Use the whipped cream immediately to top any keto dessert, serve with a bowl of keto berries or as a garnish to any keto drink!
