Easy, Low Carb Maple Breakfast Shake
I am a big fan of having a nice, cold shake in the morning. There is something about the idea of having a “milkshake” for breakfast that really helps me get out of bed. When you know there is a creamy, sweet treat waiting for you in the kitchen, it’s a lot easier to get excited about the day! However, milkshakes and freezing cold breakfast shakes are typically saved for the warmer months. A cold breakfast on a hot summer morning just makes sense. But then, summer ends and the cold temperatures roll in. But the thing is, I still want a shake…
In order to help transition a cold breakfast treat into something that is more seasonally appropriate, I started to think about making a fall-flavored shake. Pumpkin breakfast shakes, while delicious, have been made before. But what about maple? Maple is definitely a fall favorite flavor that would be perfect in a breakfast shake! The ideal marriage of an icy cold shake and cold weather flavors had begun!
Now, you may be wondering how it is possible to make a maple-flavored shake while still sticking to a keto diet. Maple syrup isn’t exactly low carb. In fact, there are about 13 grams of carbs in one tablespoon of maple syrup. That is insane! And definitely not doable for someone who is living the keto life. Luckily, there are a few great maple substitutes that I absolutely love.
I must say that the most flavorful maple syrup substitute out there is the So Nourished pancake syrup. I swear that if you closed your eyes and tried the So Nourished pancake syrup and a spoonful of maple syrup, you probably couldn’t tell the difference. The maple flavor is on point! However, the best part is that it is low carb and keto-approved. Two tablespoons of the pancake syrup has just one net carb. ONE! What a huge difference when compared to regular maple syrup. That is thanks to the monkfruit, stevia, erythritol blend of sweeteners that the syrup is made with, all of which are natural, low carb sweeteners. So pour that syrup over everything and you can feel good about every bite.
Now, back to the maple breakfast shake. With the So Nourished Pancake syrup secured as my “fall flavor”, all I needed to do was think of other delicious, keto ingredients that I wanted to put in the shake to make it “get-out-of-bed” worthy. I added almond milk and almond butter to add a nutty, warm flavor to the shake. Ground flaxseeds give the breakfast shake a little fiber and also some protein. Vanilla protein powder also helps power up the shake and makes the drink more of a complete, breakfast meal. A little cinnamon, a little ice, and the breakfast shake was ready to go!
I am so sure that you are going to love this fall-themed, icy cold breakfast beverage. It has everything you could want as you make that switch from cold summer drinks to warmer winter tastes. Grab your keto pancake syrup and give this shake a try. Let us know what you think in the comments below- we always love to hear from you! And hopefully, this maple keto breakfast shake helps you start your day off right, every day.
